Yesterday I was taking pictures of this cute family (below) and this random man asked if I was a "professional photographer". I have been so reluctant to call myself that because of the huge respect I have for people who have done the work to earn that title. But yesterday, I answered
yes and I believed myself. I have spent over a year working my butt off, researching, studying, learning, and practicing to be great at this. It has consumed every free moment, and still does. I know I have a lot more to learn. a lot. But, I finally feel like I can take a properly exposed picture and capture a real moment for someone else. and it feels good. I don't care to be a huge success in the photography world, I do it because it makes me happy. The fact that other people are interested in my work is just a bonus. a real sweet awesome bonus. I feel lucky and grateful that I found something like this to love.
and big thanks to you all in blog land for looking and supporting me on my way. Your comments and encouragement mean the world.
on to the photo sesh...
I wish I could share every. single. image. from this photo shoot with you. The way this family interacted with each other was just so easy and relaxed. It made for some pretty gorgeous pictures.

Ohio is soooo green. I love it. The ivy clad houses and walls get me every time.

I think the geese at the pond were hoping for a treat. We snapped a few quick shots before they figured out we didn't have anything for them.

I love it when families are willing to get creative with me. I think these laying down shots are my favorites of the day.

Thanks Jenkins Family!

Wow. You just keep getting better and better!
=)
One more thing...It took me a while before I could tell people I was a writer and a poet, too. So I really get that.
What helped me is when people started referring to me that way. So...
YOU ARE A PHOTOGRAPHER.
There, now I feel better.
;)
You've totally arrived lady. Obviously. I love your style and take on the pics. Professional all the way. Lets have a little session mid summer. Muah.
I'm in awe of your skill. I'd love to do that but wouldn't even know where to start. (Well, for starters, stop talking and pick up a camera...) I love these images! So fun and spontaneous. Love the crying baby cheeks being kissed by mom and dad, as well as all the other sweet moments! If you're ever in So Cal, you're hired.
Yes, dear one ~ you are a professional photographer.
The switching back and forth between black & white (which I love) and VIBRANT color is truly brilliant.
ENJOY! an AWE filled day
I love the laying down ones too! So cute!

I love the one with the dad holding the baby up in the air against the ivy wall-so adorable.

Katie, We love your photography. We think that it might be worth the trip to ohio to have our pictures taken by you again :) you were so calm and that made us feel relaxed too. We knew that you would do a great job so we didn't worry about anything! You have a ton of talent. Good luck and thanks again!!! -Jenkins Fam
You are a professional when you have passion & knowledge about your area and when people both pay and want more for your product/services. I'd say you are a photography pro in every way. I keep thinking that you could easily do a show. I like the portrait/people pictures, but some of my favorites are the nature and food scenes. You have a great eye. That is a gift. I'm glad you have both found and nourish it.
Oh! and a very happy 3rd Anniversary.
Love, Dad
Katie, these are gorgeous!!! I love the locations you find. I'm proud of you...for telling that man what's what...because you are! Look at these! Can you believe you took them? How fun is that! Love you girl!
